This course explores the needs of multilingual learners in the EYFS and provides practical suggestions for supporting young children who are new to English. It looks at the theory that supports the development of both home language and English in relation to the Early Years Outcomes, in particular Communication and Language.

Course leader

Fran Guy worked as a senior consultant for the London Borough of Islington for 13 years leading in Early Years and supporting KS1, following a long career working in diverse London primary schools. She was lead for early literacy and supported schools and settings in raising the achievement of children with EAL. Fran also worked with Islington children’s centres, organising projects supporting parents with EAL to improve their children’s early reading. At LBI, Fran delivered school based and central training for teachers, teaching assistants and senior leadership teams.  She now works independently as a consultant.
