Supporting EAL learners in lockdown
Recently the National Education Union (NEU) asked us to provide advice for their members on remote learning and pupils with English as an additional language. You can find the blog here.

Resources you can access for free
Recent additions to the free resource downloads section of our website include:

  • details of the 2020 GCSE performance of the 18 major ethnic groups in each local authority
  • how pupils in one school learnt to write History in the way that historians do

Our free webinar series: Changing the conversation
Since November we have been running free webinars as part of our Sex, Race and Class: Changing the conversation series. On our YouTube channel you can find the first two webinars: Sex, Race and Class: the Good News and Sex, Race and Class: Headteacher Perspectives. Book here for the next instalment, Sex, Race and Class: Curriculum Transformation and Leadership

Our YouTube channel  also features an introduction to 3L: Language and literacy for learning, The course addresses central issues about language in the current Ofsted framework and provides a clear route to teaching disciplinary literacy across the curriculum, an approach promoted by The Education Endowment Foundation. Further details can be found on our website here.

More of our courses go online
We are not planning to schedule any in-person delegate courses for the foreseeable future, but we are still creating new online courses, including one designed specifically for teaching assistants. Our range of short online courses (requiring approximately 12-15 hours of study) are available to complete at any time:

Our six unit online EAL course, newly re-accredited by the University of Greenwich, is now in its ninth year. We will welcome the next cohort on March 15. Email contact@theealacademy.co.uk to request a booking form.

Look out for three further online courses we will launch over the next few months:

  • Advanced EAL learners
  • EAL and Science
  • EAL and Maths.

If you would like to discuss any of our courses or resources, please get in touch (you can email me or call me on +44 (0)20 3488 2700). Most of all, stay safe.
